The intersection of Bayers Road and Oxford Street in Halifax will be fully closed from Oct. 14 until approximately Remembrance Day for a water main installation tied to the Bayers Road Transit Priority Corridor Phase 2 project. Outbound traffic will be detoured, with full two-way service not expected to return until Dec. 17.

The intersection of Bayers Road and Oxford Street in Halifax will be fully closed starting Oct. 14 and is expected to remain shut until approximately Remembrance Day. The closure is part of the Bayers Road Transit Priority Corridor Phase 2 project, which includes installing an upgraded water main beneath the intersection.

The work requires excavating a trench 4.5 metres (15 feet) deep, necessitating the full width of the intersection to be closed for safety. During the closure, outbound vehicles on Bayers Road must follow a marked detour between Windsor Street and Connaught Avenue, using Windsor Street, North Street, Chebucto Road, and Connaught Avenue. Bayers Road will remain open to two-way local traffic on either side of the intersection closure while the work is underway.

Beginning around Nov. 12, Bayers Road between Windsor Street and Connolly Street will reopen to one-way outbound traffic. At that time, inbound access will be limited to local residents and businesses through the Connaught Avenue intersection. Full two-way traffic on Bayers Road is not expected to be restored until Dec. 17.

Emergency access will be maintained at all times throughout the project. Property access will be provided through marked detours, despite potential temporary sidewalk closures. Halifax Transit buses will continue to follow existing detour routes around the project area.
