Nova Scotia Appoints Build Nova Scotia CEO David Benoit as New NSCC President
David Benoit, the current president and CEO of Build Nova Scotia, has been appointed as the new president of the Nova Scotia Community College, effective January 1. He will be the first province-appointed head of the college following the passage of Bill 12 in 2025.
The province of Nova Scotia has appointed David Benoit, currently the president and CEO of Build Nova Scotia, as the new president of the Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC). Benoit is scheduled to begin his role on January 1.
Benoit will be the first province-appointed head of the NSCC since the passage of Bill 12 in 2025, which allowed for this appointment process. The recruitment was led by the college's board of governors, chaired by Jackie Poirier, which recommended Benoit to the Minister of Labour, Skills and Immigration.
The presidency had been filled by vice-president Anna Burke on an interim basis since former president Don Bureaux departed in March. Bureaux served as president for 15 years before his departure.
Before leading Build Nova Scotia, Benoit served in the Royal Canadian Navy for 30 years. He also previously held the position of senior executive director of strategic investment and infrastructure planning with the Department of Health and Wellness.
