Canada to Open Applications for $5,000 Red Seal Completion Bonus on November 16, 2026
The Government of Canada will begin accepting applications for the $5,000 Team Canada Strong Red Seal Completion Bonus on November 16, 2026. The bonus is part of an $8 billion initiative aimed at recruiting, training, and hiring up to 100,000 new Red Seal trades workers by 2030-2031.

The Government of Canada announced that applications for the $5,000 Team Canada Strong Red Seal Completion Bonus will open on November 16, 2026. The bonus is a component of the broader $8 billion Team Canada Strong investment, which aims to recruit, train, and hire 80,000 to 100,000 new Red Seal trades workers over the next five years, by 2030-2031.
To be eligible for the completion bonus, journeypersons must have obtained certification in a designated Red Seal trade on or after April 1, 2025. Applicants must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or protected persons, and they cannot be currently attending high school.
Those applying for the bonus must provide several required documents, including their Social Insurance Number, mailing address, banking information, Red Seal trade name, certification date, province or territory of certification, and apprentice identification number. An email address is optional. All required supporting documents must be submitted within 28 calendar days of beginning an application.
Application deadlines vary depending on when certification was obtained. Individuals who received their certification between April 1, 2025, and November 15, 2026, must submit their applications by May 31, 2027. For those certified on or after November 16, 2026, applications must be received within 12 months of the certification date.

The initiative responds to projections that Canada will see more than 1.4 million job openings in skilled trades between 2024 and 2033. The Team Canada Strong investment includes several other measures alongside the completion bonus. A $2 billion federal investment is designated to support provincial and territorial workforce development efforts.
Additional programs under the initiative include the Team Canada Strong Youth Placements program, an $880 million investment over five years providing paid entry-level work placements of up to four months. The Build Canada Apprenticeship Service offers financial incentives of up to $10,000 for employers hiring a first-year apprentice in an eligible Red Seal trade.
The Union Training and Innovation Program temporarily increases the maximum contribution rate for purchasing training equipment from 50% to 70%. Furthermore, the Apprenticeship Training Grant provides a $400 weekly top-up during mandatory in-class technical training, applicable to weeks beginning on or after January 3, 2027.
