Halifax Regional Municipality Launches Suburban Plan with Public Open Houses and Online Survey
The Halifax Regional Municipality is developing a new Suburban Plan to guide growth in suburban areas. The process includes seven public open houses from January 19 to February 4 and an online survey available until June 15, 2026.
The Halifax Regional Municipality has announced the development of a new Suburban Plan aimed at guiding growth and change within its suburban areas. The initiative seeks to update land use policies under a single plan while respecting the unique history, characteristics, and aspirations of each community.
To engage residents in the planning process, the municipality has scheduled seven kick-off open houses across various communities between January 19 and February 4. These sessions are designed for members of the public to learn about the planning process and provide feedback. Each open house will run during two time slots: 2 to 4 p.m. and 5:30 to 8 p.m.
The schedule for the open houses is as follows:
- Monday, Jan. 19: Cole Harbour, Dartmouth, Westphal, and Lake Loon at Cole Harbour Place.
- Tuesday, Jan. 20: Eastern Passage at Horizon Recreation Centre.
- Monday, Jan. 26: Bedford at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 95.
- Wednesday, Jan. 28: Clayton Park and Fairview at Canada Games Centre.
- Thursday, Jan. 29: Spryfield, Herring Cove, and Armdale at Captain William Spry Library.
- Monday, Feb. 2: Beechville, Lakeside, and Timberlea at Lakeside Fire Hall.
- Wednesday, Feb. 4: Sackville and Beaver Bank at Sackville Sports Stadium.
In addition to the in-person events, an initial online survey for the Suburban Plan is currently open. Residents can participate in the survey until June 15, 2026.
