Canada Invests $66.4 Million to Extend Water Infrastructure in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory
The Government of Canada announced a federal investment of up to $66.4 million on September 15, 2026, to extend watermain infrastructure in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory. The project aims to connect 305 unserviced homes to the existing water treatment plant, lifting the community's long-term drinking water advisory and improving fire protection.
On September 15, 2026, MP Chris Malette and Chief R. Donald Maracle announced a federal investment of more than $66 million for water infrastructure in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory. The funding is provided through the Direct Delivery stream of the Build Communities Strong Fund.
The project will extend the watermain in the territory to connect currently unserviced areas to the existing water treatment plant. This investment is designed to provide safe drinking water and fire protection for the remaining 305 un-serviced homes in the community. Completion of the project will enable the lifting of the community's long-term drinking water advisory.
The Build Communities Strong Fund represents a total federal investment of $51 billion in infrastructure projects across Canada. Under the Direct Delivery stream, at least 10% of the funding is designated for investments in Indigenous communities.
