Budget 2026 Pledges Nearly $30 Billion to End Homelessness Within a Decade
Minister Gregor Robertson highlighted Budget 2026's plan to end homelessness within 10 years, backed by nearly $30 billion in federal funding for housing, health, and integrated support services.
On November 6, 2026, Minister Gregor Robertson visited the Attainable Homes Calgary Corporation project in Calgary, Alberta, to highlight Budget 2026’s plan to end homelessness within 10 years. The initiative is backed by nearly $30 billion in federal funding aimed at integrating help, housing, and health services.
The budget allocates $6.5 billion to renew the Reaching Home Initiative, which includes support for veteran homelessness. An additional $5.5 billion is designated to renew the Canada Housing Benefit to provide direct monthly rental assistance to low-income Canadians. Through Build Canada Homes, $10 billion will be invested to support approximately 25,000 supportive and transitional homes.
To further integrate housing with health care, mental health, and addiction treatment services, Budget 2026 establishes a new Integrated Supports Fund with $5 billion to build facilities combining these resources. Another $2 billion is allocated to the Build Communities Strong Fund’s Health Infrastructure Fund for community mental health infrastructure.
During the visit, the Government of Canada and Alberta noted a previously announced $12.5 million investment for an ATCO Sunnyside modular apartment development. That project uses innovative construction methods to provide 198 affordable units, increasing the supply of affordable housing.
Secretary of State Stephen Fuhr is scheduled to highlight these federal budget investments in homelessness and housing during an event in Kelowna, British Columbia, on November 8, 2026.
