56 Firefighters Battle Blaze 40 Metres Above Ground at Halifax Grain Elevator
A structure fire broke out Monday evening in the dust management system of the Halifax Grain Elevator on Marginal Road, prompting a three-alarm response from Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency. Crews worked more than 40 metres above ground to contain the blaze while protecting a nearby vessel.
Firefighters responded to a structure fire at the Halifax Grain Elevator site on Marginal Road on Monday evening, October 26. Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency (HRFE) received the call between 7:10 p.m. and 7:15 p.m.

The fire was located in the grain elevator's dust management system, more than 40 metres (approximately 135 feet) above the ground. The incident was isolated to the No. 28 loading facility at the dock and geographically separated from surrounding residential areas.
At its peak, the incident required a three-alarm response. HRFE deployed 56 firefighters and 20 apparatus to combat the fire. Crews worked to protect a nearby vessel alongside the facility while navigating challenges presented by the industrial infrastructure and elevated operations.

CTV News reported that the fire is believed to have started due to wood pellets in the conveyor system. However, Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency stated that the origin and cause of the fire have not yet been determined and are subject to investigation.
