Fire Forces Cape Breton's Mira Boat Club to Close for the Season as Investigation Underway
An early Friday morning fire caused heavy exterior and widespread smoke damage to the Mira Boat Club in Cape Breton, forcing the non-profit community center to close for the remainder of the season. The Nova Scotia fire marshal's office is investigating the incident amid a recent increase in suspicious activity across the Cape Breton Regional Municipality.
An early Friday morning fire has forced the Mira Boat Club in Cape Breton to close for the remainder of the season after the building sustained heavy exterior damage and widespread smoke damage.
The Mira Boat Club is a non-profit organization that promotes boating and water sports while also serving as a community centre. Following the blaze, the Albert Bridge Volunteer Fire Department called in the Nova Scotia fire marshal's office to open an investigation.
Gary O'Brien of the fire marshal's office stated that cases like this are becoming increasingly common in the region. Over the past couple of months, there has been suspicious activity throughout the Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM), prompting collaboration with the Cape Breton Regional Police.
Despite the uptick in incidents, O'Brien noted there is no clear pattern connecting the recent fires, describing them as seemingly random acts. The closure marks a sad day for the community and the club.
