Nova Scotia Fuel Prices Drop as U.S. Midterm Losses Spark GOP Rift Over Iran

Gasoline and diesel prices in Nova Scotia fell in early November 2026, reaching levels not seen since August. The reductions coincided with heavy U.S. Republican midterm losses and JD Vance publicly blaming the conflict with Iran for the party's defeat.

Gasoline and diesel prices across Nova Scotia decreased during the first week of November 2026, offering relief to drivers after months of elevated fuel costs. The Nova Scotia Energy Board lowered gasoline prices by 9.9 cents to 171.7 cents per litre, marking a low not seen since August 2026. Diesel prices dropped by 5.3 cents to hover around 248.2 cents per litre.

The price reductions came during the same week that the U.S. Republican Party suffered heavy losses in the midterm elections. Following those results, JD Vance publicly broke from President Donald Trump’s defense of the Iran war. Vance blamed the unpopular conflict with Iran for the GOP’s drubbing at the polls.

Amid the political shifts in Washington, diplomatic efforts were underway to avert a return to all-out war. Iran’s top diplomat Abbas Araghchi stated that Iran hopes for "rationality" from the U.S. side. Araghchi said Iran was ready for both defense and diplomacy, depending on Washington’s "rationality."
