Bayers Road and Oxford Street Intersection to Close for Water Main Installation
The Halifax Regional Municipality will fully close the intersection of Bayers Road and Oxford Street from Oct. 14 to Nov. 11, 2026, to install an upgraded water transmission main as part of the Bayers Road Transit Priority Corridor Phase 2 project.
The Halifax Regional Municipality has announced a full closure of the intersection of Bayers Road and Oxford Street from Wednesday, Oct. 14, to approximately Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2026. The 24-7 closure is required to facilitate the installation of an upgraded water transmission main beneath the intersection that provides water service to the north end of the Halifax peninsula.

The construction work involves excavation of a trench approximately 4.5 metres (15 feet) deep. This effort is part of the Bayers Road Transit Priority Corridor Phase 2 project, which supports the municipality's Integrated Mobility Plan, Rapid Transit Strategy, and Moving Better goals outlined in the 2026-2030 Strategic Plan.
During the closure, outbound vehicles will follow a marked detour between Windsor Street and Connaught Avenue via Windsor Street, North Street, Chebucto Road, and Connaught Avenue. Bayers Road will remain open to two-way local traffic on either side of the intersection closure throughout the work period. Emergency access will be maintained at all times during the closure.

Impacts in the area include temporary closures of sections of sidewalks and crosswalks, as well as delays for drivers. Halifax Transit routes will continue to follow existing detour routes around the project area.
Beginning Nov. 12, Bayers Road between Windsor Street and Connolly Street will reopen to one-way outbound traffic, while inbound traffic remains restricted to local residents and business access only. Full two-way traffic on Bayers Road is expected to be restored on Dec. 17, 2026.
