Halifax couple accused of concealing newborn's remains to return to court in December

Sukhpreet Singh and Ramandeep Kaur face multiple charges related to the concealment of a deceased infant whose body was found in Goodwood woods. The case is linked to the death of a 23-year-old relative who died days after giving birth in May.

A Halifax couple charged in connection with the concealment of a newborn infant’s remains is scheduled to return to Nova Scotia Supreme Court for pretrial conferences on December 3 and December 10.

Sukhpreet Singh, 24, and Ramandeep Kaur, 27, are each charged with concealing the dead body of an infant with intent to hide its delivery, interfering with human remains, obstructing police, and obstructing justice. During a recent court appearance, Singh attended by video from the provincial jail in Burnside, while Kaur was represented by counsel but was not present. Kaur has been free on bail following a hearing in September.

The charges stem from events that began on May 22, when a 23-year-old woman related to Singh was admitted to hospital in critical condition after giving birth. She died five days later, on May 27.

On May 24, two days after the mother was hospitalized, the deceased infant’s body was discovered in woods off Old Coach Road in Goodwood. Search efforts conducted by Halifax Regional Police and Nova Scotia Ground Search and Rescue were guided by information obtained during interviews with four people, including Singh and Kaur.

An autopsy was performed on the infant on May 25, but the cause of death has not been released.
