An 83-year-old Halifax great-grandfather pleaded guilty in Dartmouth provincial court to sexually abusing his daughter, granddaughter, and great-granddaughter over a span of more than four decades. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for February 11, 2027.
An 83-year-old Halifax great-grandfather has pleaded guilty to sexually abusing girls from three generations of his family, with offences spanning more than four decades across the Halifax Regional Municipality.
The defendant cannot be named due to a publication ban protecting the identities of the three complainants. He pleaded guilty in Dartmouth provincial court to two counts of sexual interference, two counts of making sexually explicit material available to a child under 16, and one count of indecent assault.
The abuse involved his daughter between 1981 and 1983, a granddaughter between 2009 and 2015, and a great-granddaughter between October 2025 and January 2026. The offences were committed in three communities within the Halifax Regional Municipality.
Judge Ann Marie Simmonds accepted the guilty pleas after confirming they were voluntary and understood by the defendant. A presentence report and forensic sexual behaviour assessment have been ordered.

Defence lawyer Pat Atherton and Crown attorney Madeline Smillie-Sharp are drafting an agreed statement of facts for sentencing. No agreement has been reached on a sentencing recommendation at this time. The sentencing hearing is scheduled for February 11, 2027.
The man was arrested last January and released on conditions prohibiting communication with the complainants and three other family members. Five additional charges, including invitation to sexual touching and sexual assault, are expected to be withdrawn after sentencing.
