Halifax Introduces New Photography and Video Policy for Recreation Facilities
The Halifax Regional Municipality has implemented a new policy governing photography and video recording at its recreation facilities, permitting recording in some areas while requiring staff approval or imposing outright bans in others to protect privacy, safety, and comfort.
The Halifax Regional Municipality has introduced a new policy to guide photography and video recording at municipal recreation facilities. The rules are designed to address concerns related to privacy, safety, and the comfort of facility users.
Under the new guidelines, photography and video recording are generally permitted in spaces such as arenas, gymnasiums, and multi-purpose rooms. However, residents who wish to record at pool facilities or in fitness areas, including weight rooms and fitness studios, must first obtain approval from facility staff.
The policy strictly prohibits photography, video recording, and broadcasting in change rooms, washrooms, and registration areas where personal or financial information may be visible. These restrictions aim to protect the privacy of individuals using the facilities.
Enforcement measures are outlined for those who do not comply with the policy. Individuals will be directed to stop recording and may be asked to leave the facility. Serious or repeated violations could result in further action.
Signage regarding the new policy will be installed at municipal recreation facilities across the Halifax Regional Municipality in the coming weeks.
