Halifax Regional Municipality Implements Intersection Changes Starting Tuesday

Beginning Tuesday morning, the Halifax Regional Municipality will introduce several road rule changes at intersections across the city, including the removal of left-turning lanes and the addition of a turning lane on Connaught Avenue. The adjustments are intended to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety while larger transportation projects are underway.

Starting Tuesday morning, drivers in the Halifax Regional Municipality will encounter new road rules at several intersections as the municipality implements changes designed to improve traffic flow and increase pedestrian safety.

Among the most notable adjustments, left-turning lanes will be removed from a handful of intersections across the city. On Connaught Avenue, northbound drivers will gain an extra turning lane to enter Quinpool Road.

Specific restrictions have also been introduced at key locations. At the corner of Gottingen, Duke, and Brunswick streets, left turns from Gottingen onto Brunswick will be prohibited. Motorists heading toward the Macdonald Bridge on North Street will no longer be permitted to make a left turn onto Gottingen during morning and afternoon rush hours. Additionally, vehicles traveling in both directions on Jubilee Road cannot turn left onto Quinpool during the afternoon rush hour only.

Halifax spokesperson Jake Fulton stated that these small tweaks help with traffic flow and increase safety for pedestrians. The municipality worked with consultants to review efficiencies in the existing transportation network before finalizing the changes.

These intersection adjustments are being introduced while larger transportation projects remain underway in the region.
