Convicted Halifax Sex Offender Robert Warren Munro Arrested on New Child Abuse Charges

Robert Warren Munro, a 42-year-old convicted sex offender out on bail pending appeal, has been arrested and charged with sexually abusing another child between 2015 and 2020. He also faces charges for breaching his release conditions. The Crown opposes his release, and he remains in custody at the Dartmouth jail until an October 20 bail hearing.

Robert Warren Munro, 42, was arrested Thursday on charges of molesting a girl between December 2015 and June 2020. He was arraigned in Halifax bail court Friday on charges of sexual assault, sexual interference, and one count of breaching release conditions by being around a young person between May 30 and June 15, 2025.

Judge Del Atwood ordered Munro to have no contact with the complainant, whose identity is protected by a publication ban. The Crown is opposed to Munro’s release, and he will remain in custody at the Dartmouth jail until Oct. 20, when a bail hearing is scheduled.

Munro was found guilty last year of sexually abusing his close friends’ four-year-old daughter while babysitting in May 2023. He was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison last December but was granted bail in January pending an appeal of his conviction. Appeal Court Justice Robin Gogan granted Munro’s application for bail pending appeal on Jan. 8, approving his release on a $27,000 bail order with house arrest and his parents as sureties. A Nova Scotia Court of Appeal panel heard Munro’s appeal last month and reserved its decision. Lawyers from Toronto filed a notice of appeal claiming Judge Mark Heerema erred in handling evidence regarding bed sheets, bleeding, and the reliability of the complainant's testimony due to tainting.

Last year, police charged Munro with six counts of breaching his release conditions by being in the company of children between June 2024 and August 2025. Munro spent three nights in custody in August 2025 before being released on a $12,000 bail order with house arrest regarding the breach charges. Munro pleaded not guilty to the breach charges in provincial court in November 2025 and will stand trial on them in January 2027.
