Halifax to Change Traffic Operations at Connaught Avenue and Quinpool Road Intersection

Starting Tuesday, November 3, the Halifax Regional Municipality will implement new lane configurations at the intersection of Connaught Avenue and Quinpool Road in collaboration with Link Nova Scotia to improve traffic flow and reduce delays.

Effective Tuesday, November 3, the Halifax Regional Municipality will introduce traffic operation changes at the intersection of Connaught Avenue and Quinpool Road. The modifications are being implemented in collaboration with Link Nova Scotia as part of targeted operational transportation upgrades.

For northbound traffic on Connaught Avenue, the existing dedicated left-turn lane and shared left-turn/through lane will be converted into two dedicated left-turn lanes. The dedicated through lane for northbound vehicles remains unchanged, while the current dedicated right-turn lane will become a shared through/right-turn lane.

For southbound traffic on Connaught Avenue, the existing dedicated left-turn lanes and dedicated through lane will remain unchanged. However, the current dedicated right-turn lane will be converted into a shared through/right-turn lane.

The changes aim to improve traffic flow, reduce delays, and increase capacity for vehicles turning left by better aligning lane configurations with existing travel patterns. Additional anticipated impacts include enhanced corridor performance, support for transit movement, and reduced congestion on key routes.

This initiative supports the Moving Better priority outlined in the municipality's 2026–2030 Strategic Plan. It also aligns with the Integrated Mobility Plan and Link Nova Scotia’s Regional Transportation Plan.
