Icelandair is set to suspend its direct flights between Halifax Stanfield International Airport and Reykjavik, Iceland, with the final scheduled departure taking place on October 18. The move will eliminate the only scheduled air connection between Iceland and Atlantic Canada.
The airline first returned to Halifax Stanfield in 2023 before reintroducing non-stop service on the route in May 2024. Prior to these recent operations, Icelandair had flown between the two cities during earlier iterations from 1996 to 2001 and again from 2016 to 2017.
Travellers holding bookings for flights beyond the October 18 suspension are advised to check their itineraries directly with Icelandair to arrange rebooking.
Despite the loss of the Reykjavik route, Halifax Stanfield International Airport will continue to offer non-stop service to 12 European destinations. This includes year-round Air Canada flights to London Heathrow, maintaining access to the broader European network for passengers departing from Nova Scotia.
