Two Tankers Explode After Hitting Mines in Strait of Hormuz, IRGC Says
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy reported that two tankers struck mines and exploded in the Strait of Hormuz on November 1. The IRGC alleged the vessels were using an unauthorized route with their navigation systems turned off under U.S. military support.
On November 1, a spokesperson for Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy announced that two tankers struck mines and exploded while transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the IRGC, one of the vessels involved was a supertanker that suffered a violent explosion and subsequently caught fire.
The IRGC alleged that both tankers were in violation of maritime regulations at the time of the incident. The force claimed the ships were attempting to pass through an unauthorized route and had deliberately turned off their navigation and identification systems.
In its statement, the IRGC further asserted that this attempt at a secret passage through the strait was carried out with the support of the United States military.
