One Child Dead, Three in Critical Condition After Stabbing Attack in Blue Mountains
A stabbing incident in Valley Heights resulted in the death of one child and left two other children and a woman in critical condition. NSW Police have established a crime scene and are not currently seeking other suspects.
Emergency services responded to a distressing scene on Waratah Road in Valley Heights, within the Blue Mountains, following reports of multiple victims suffering from stab wounds inside a vehicle. The incident, which occurred on Sunday afternoon, has resulted in the death of one child, while two other children and a woman remain in critical condition.
Members of the public who witnessed the aftermath performed first aid on the victims while contacting Triple Zero for assistance before police arrived at the scene. NSW Ambulance personnel treated the survivors at the location before transporting them to hospital, where they underwent surgery.
The two surviving children are believed to be under five years old, and the woman is believed to be in her 40s. Superintendent John Nelson of the Blue Mountains Police Area Command confirmed that the investigation is still in its early stages. He stated that police are not looking for any other people at this time and have established a crime scene to preserve evidence.
Superintendent Nelson noted that the woman was not known to police but declined to confirm whether she was the mother of the children. Police have made contact with the children's father, though communication with the wider family has not yet been established.
Authorities have issued a public appeal for dashcam footage or any information related to the incident. Due to the traumatic nature of the event, support services have been provided to the responding officers.
