Halifax police have charged Michael Burke Leblanc, a 69-year-old man, with creating and distributing child sexual abuse material using artificial intelligence. The investigation began in September 2025 after authorities received reports that a person in Halifax was using AI software to create and share such content.
On January 27, investigators conducted a search of an address in Halifax, arrested Leblanc, and seized electronic devices for forensic analysis. He appeared in Halifax provincial court facing charges of printing or publishing, distributing, and possessing child pornography.
Authorities stated that at this stage, the evidence does not suggest any real children were used or harmed in the creation of the materials. The case highlights emerging concerns regarding the use of artificial intelligence to generate illegal content.
