Halifax Man Charged with Hate-Motivated Threats After Incident in Middle Sackville
Matthew Michael Jones, 21, faces multiple charges including hate-motivated threats and dangerous driving after allegedly attempting to pull a youth from a vehicle in Middle Sackville.
Halifax RCMP have charged Matthew Michael Jones, a 21-year-old resident of the Halifax Regional Municipality, with hate-motivated threats and related offenses following an incident in Middle Sackville.
The alleged events took place on the evening of September 16. Police state that Jones approached a parked vehicle on Midnight Run and attempted to pull a youth passenger out of the car. When the driver fled the scene, Jones allegedly followed in another vehicle. Investigators say he drove dangerously while continuing to make threats during a cellphone conversation with the driver.
Upon reviewing the case, investigators determined that Jones's actions were motivated by hate. He was arrested on September 18 at the Lower Sackville RCMP detachment.
Jones has been charged with three counts of uttering threats, one count of dangerous operation of a conveyance, and one count of criminal harassment. He appeared in Dartmouth Provincial Court on the day of his arrest and was released on conditions. His next court appearance is scheduled for October 22.
