A 25-year-old Beechville man has been denied bail in Halifax provincial court after being charged in connection with an alleged domestic violence incident that left a woman injured.

Judge Del Atwood denied bail to Varyam Singh during a hearing in Halifax bail court. A publication ban prevents reporting on the specific details and reasons for Judge Atwood's decision. Singh remains held in remand and is prohibited from contacting his co-accused, the complainant, or a potential Crown witness.
The charges stem from an incident on September 14 at a home on Higgins Avenue in Beechville, where two men allegedly attempted to kill a woman. RCMP and paramedics responded to a 911 call from the residence at approximately 7:55 a.m. on September 15. The first arrest was made at 8:15 a.m. The complainant sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Varyam Singh and his co-accused, 32-year-old Gurwinder Singh, both face charges of attempted murder, assault causing bodily harm, assault by choking, uttering threats, forcible confinement, overcoming resistance by choking, and property mischief. Varyam Singh faces eight charges in total, including an additional charge of violence against an intimate partner related to the September 14 incident. Gurwinder Singh also faces an additional allegation of common assault connected to an event in June 2025.
On October 1, Judge Michael Sherar granted Gurwinder Singh bail under a $10,000 bail order, which included a $2,500 cash deposit and a $7,500 surety pledge. He is required to live with his surety in Brampton, Ontario. His strict bail conditions include a curfew from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., a weapon prohibition, surrender of his passport, and travel restrictions limiting him to Ontario except for court appearances in Nova Scotia.
Both men are scheduled to return to Halifax provincial court on November 9 for election and plea.
