Halifax's Massachusetts Avenue Ramp Reopens Nearly Three Weeks Ahead of Schedule
The Massachusetts Avenue ramp connecting the MacKay Bridge and Barrington Street to Robie Street in Halifax reopened on Nov. 7, nearly three weeks earlier than planned, following a closure that began Sept. 21 for Windsor Street Exchange construction.
The Massachusetts Avenue ramp, which connects traffic from the MacKay Bridge and Barrington Street to Robie Street in Halifax, reopened by the end of the day on Saturday, Nov. 7. The ramp had been closed since Sept. 21 to support the construction of a new Bayne Street ramp connection from Highway 111.

The reopening occurred nearly three weeks earlier than originally planned. The scheduled reopening date was Nov. 27, but the contractor accelerated the timeline by adding resources and scheduling work concurrently. In total, the closure lasted less than two months.
The construction is part of the broader Windsor Street Exchange project, which is designed to improve traffic flow and support goods movement to and from the Port of Halifax. Once completed, the new Bayne Street ramp connection will provide a more direct route for port traffic originating from Barrington Street and the MacKay Bridge. This infrastructure improvement aims to reduce heavy truck traffic through other areas of the Windsor Street Exchange and enhance overall transportation network efficiency.
During future construction phases associated with the project, the reopened ramp is also expected to serve as an alternative access route to Bayne Street.
