A suspected Ebola case at the Centre hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal (CHUM) was determined to be a false alarm after a female patient tested negative for the virus.

The patient arrived at the Montreal hospital late Thursday afternoon exhibiting signs of Ebola. Upon identifying the suspicious symptoms, the hospital immediately enacted required emergency isolation protocols.

Spokesperson Ellen Caracas confirmed to CBC News that the patient tested negative for Ebola and that the emergency protocols were lifted just before 8 p.m.

Hospital spokesperson Irène Marcheterre insisted there was no risk to the public following the incident. However, Marcheterre could not confirm whether the patient had recently travelled from the Democratic Republic of Congo, where an ongoing Ebola outbreak has been reported.
