Halifax Opens Applications for Annual Neighbourhood Placemaking Program

The Halifax Regional Municipality is accepting applications for its Neighbourhood Placemaking program until November 8, 2026. The initiative offers three funding streams to support community-led projects that enhance neighbourhood connectivity and sustainability.

The Halifax Regional Municipality has opened applications for its annual Neighbourhood Placemaking program. The application period began on October 3, 2026, and will close on Sunday, November 8, 2026.

Backed by the municipality, the program supports neighbours in connecting through community projects such as seed libraries, benches, art installations, or street painting. Successful applicants receive training, guidance, and funding for their neighbourhood project.

The initiative offers three distinct funding streams. The "Placemaking Create" stream supports neighbour-led projects of any theme with funding between $1,500 and $4,000. The "Placemaking Art" stream is designated for projects that hire an artist and offers funding between $3,000 and $7,000. The "Environmental Placemaking" stream supports projects contributing to climate resilience and sustainability with funding between $3,000 and $10,000.

The program aims to support the vision outlined in the municipality's 2026-2030 Strategic Plan for more welcoming and livable communities.

A virtual program information session will be hosted on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Participants can register for the information session by emailing placemaking@halifax.ca with their name, neighbourhood, and email address.
