Marnie Cluckie Appointed as New Chief Administrative Officer for Halifax Regional Municipality
Marnie Cluckie has been named the new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for the Halifax Regional Municipality. With over two decades of public sector experience, she will oversee a budget exceeding $1 billion and approximately 5,000 employees, focusing on managing growth, affordability, and infrastructure improvements.
Marnie Cluckie has been appointed as the new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM). She brings more than 20 years of experience in the public sector to the role.
Prior to her appointment in Halifax, Cluckie served as the city manager for Hamilton, Ontario, starting in early 2024. Her background also includes working as the CAO for Niagara-on-the-Lake.
In her new position, Cluckie will oversee a municipal budget of more than $1 billion and manage a team of approximately 5,000 employees. She has identified several key challenges facing the region, including managing rapid growth, traffic congestion, transit issues, and infrastructure demands such as water systems. Addressing affordability is also a priority for her administration.
Cluckie emphasized the importance of ensuring value for money in tax spending and maintaining strong relationships with other levels of government. She also noted the need to preserve the unique character of communities amidst ongoing development.
Regarding internal changes, Cluckie stated that she does not have predetermined plans for layoffs or senior leadership changes at this time.
