Administered by Perennia, the program covers infrastructure upgrades and cattle purchases, with individual farms eligible for up to $250,000. Applications close on Dec. 11.
Nova Scotia Agriculture Minister Greg Morrow announced a $2.3-million provincial program on Thursday to support the province's beef producers. The announcement was made at South River Ranch in St. Andrews, Antigonish County, hosted by Ryan McCarron.

The new funding is part of the Nova Scotia Beef Initiative, which began in 2024 with total funding of $5.2 million. Dean Manning serves as the chair of the initiative. Morrow described the investment as the largest single investment in the beef sector in Nova Scotia's history.
The program covers barn upgrades, other infrastructure upgrades such as handling systems, and cattle purchases. Each farm can receive up to $250,000, or 25% of project costs. Perennia, a provincial agency supporting economic growth in the agriculture sector, will administer the program.

There are currently 370 licensed beef producers in Nova Scotia. The funding is intended to help farmers keep up with demand for locally produced beef, assist young farmers with capital-intensive costs, and increase flexibility in marketing and sales for local producers.
Applications for the program close on Dec. 11.
