Nova Scotia Power Names Chris Smith as New President and CEO

Chris Smith, currently Executive Vice President of Finance and Commercial, will become President and CEO of Nova Scotia Power on November 2, 2026, replacing Vivek Sood, who has decided not to renew his contract.

Nova Scotia Power has announced that Chris Smith will become its new President and Chief Executive Officer, effective November 2, 2026. Smith currently serves as the utility's Executive Vice President of Finance and Commercial.

He succeeds Vivek Sood, who joined Nova Scotia Power as CEO earlier this year but has decided not to renew his contract. During his tenure, Sood focused on stabilizing operations, rebuilding trust, strengthening reliability, and advancing securitization work.

Scott Balfour, Chair of the Nova Scotia Power Board of Directors, thanked Sood for his contributions during what he described as a pivotal year for the company. Balfour also welcomed Smith's appointment, citing his deep knowledge of the business and prior industry experience.

Before joining Nova Scotia Power in 2017, Smith served as President of Heritage Gas, which is now known as Eastward Energy.

The leadership transition is intended to maintain the utility's focus on reliability and cost management for customers. It also aims to support the new Nova Scotia Independent Energy System Operator through complex generation and system planning transitions.

Nova Scotia Power provides electricity to approximately 550,000 customers and employs 2,200 people.
