Nova Scotia Teacher Charged with Multiple Assaults at Riverton School

Matthew Donahoe, a 53-year-old teacher from Bible Hill, Nova Scotia, has been charged with multiple offenses following allegations of assaults at Dr. W.A. MacLeod Consolidated School in Riverton. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) received the initial report on September 10, 2026.
Donahoe is facing charges that include one count of sexual assault, one count of sexual interference, one count of assault with a weapon, two counts of assault by choking, four counts of assault, and one count of administering a noxious substance. Investigators have identified additional victims of similar alleged assaults that occurred during the 2026-2027 school year.
The accused was arrested on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, and appeared in Pictou provincial court on Thursday, September 24, 2026.
In response to the initial report, the Chignecto Central Regional Centre for Education (CCRCE) immediately removed Donahoe’s access to the school and students, placing him on leave. The education centre described the charges as "deeply troubling." Students and families were notified of the teacher's leave, and support services were made available at the school.
