NSCC to Pause Professional Photography Program in 2027-28 Citing Low Enrolment
Nova Scotia Community College will not offer its professional photography program in the 2027-28 academic year due to low enrolment since 2021 and changes affecting international students. Current second-year students can finish their studies, though some studio space has already been repurposed for nursing classes.
The Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) has announced that it will not offer its professional photography program during the 2027-28 academic year. The college cited very low historical enrolment from 2021 onward, along with changed rules affecting international students, as the reasons behind the decision.

Students currently enrolled in their second and final year of the program will be permitted to complete their studies before the change takes effect. Despite this assurance, many current students have expressed disappointment over the loss of program continuity and studio space. One of the photography studios at the college was recently converted into a classroom for incoming nursing students to address labour force needs.
Student Willow Ryer argued that professional photography remains critical for documenting reality, particularly amid the rise of artificial intelligence and fake news. Other students associated with the program include Samantha Drane and Annelise LeBlanc.

NSCC characterizes the move as a "program reduction" rather than a permanent suspension. According to the college, the professional photography program could return if there is future demand within the labour market.
