Pregnant Palestinian Woman and Unborn Child Killed in Gaza Amidst Ongoing Violence
Iman Shalouf, a pregnant woman nearly eight months along, died alongside her unborn child after being shot by Israeli forces in the al-Mawasi area of Gaza. Her death is part of a broader pattern of violence that has resulted in at least 10 deaths over 48 hours, despite an October 2025 ceasefire agreement.
Iman Shalouf, a 27-year-old Palestinian woman who was nearly eight months pregnant, died along with her unborn baby after being struck by gunfire in the head. The incident occurred while she was sitting inside her family’s tent in the al-Mawasi area, south of Khan Younis. Doctors at Nasser hospital initially detected the unborn baby's heartbeat, but both mother and child passed away a few hours later.
The Israel Defense Forces stated they were investigating the incident involving Shalouf. Her death occurred amidst a surge in violence where at least 10 Palestinians were killed and 56 wounded in Israeli attacks across Gaza over a 48-hour period. This ongoing bloodshed persists despite a ceasefire agreement reached in October 2025. According to the health ministry in Gaza, 1,369 Palestinians have been killed and 4,627 wounded since the ceasefire began.
Other casualties during this period included four members of one family—Momen Ahmed, Haneen Saleh, Lana, and Bana—who were killed when their home in Beit Lahiya was struck on Thursday night. Additionally, two Palestinians were killed and several injured when a vehicle was targeted in Tel al-Hawa in Gaza City on Sunday.
Humanitarian organizations have highlighted severe conditions facing residents in Gaza. Between September 6 and 9, Israeli forces issued 18 evacuation orders and struck a building less than 250 feet from an MSF clinic. Most of Gaza’s 2.1 million residents are approaching the rainy season while living in overcrowded displacement sites that are at risk of flooding and disease.
