Geophysical surveys provide detailed information about underground geology using non-invasive techniques such as drone-based, aerial, and ground-based methods. The project aims to advance mineral exploration, attract investment, improve planning for resource development, minimize environmental disturbance, make high-quality data publicly available, and support job creation.

Kim Masland serves as the Minister of Natural Resources for Nova Scotia. Laura Hynes Jenkins is the Assistant Vice-President, Government Relations, at Dalhousie University. Sean Kirby is the Executive Director of the Mining Association of Nova Scotia.

This initiative follows a previous collaboration between the provincial government and the university. In December, the Province engaged Dalhousie University to oversee the Subsurface Energy Research and Development Investment Program.
