Nova Scotia Announces Major Agropur Expansion in Bedford to Meet Dairy Demand
The Province of Nova Scotia announced a significant expansion by Agropur at its Bedford facility on April 23, 2026. On April 23, 2026, the Province of Nova Scotia welcomed a major expansion by Agropur at its Bedford facility. This investment is designed to position Bedford as a key site for dairy ingredient processing and to address the rising consumer demand for new protein-rich dairy products across the country.
The expanded facility is scheduled to open in 2028 and will feature a new butter processing line. Currently, Agropur employs more than 400 people in Nova Scotia at its plants in Bedford and Truro. In 2022, the company also invested $34 million in its ice cream and frozen novelties plant in Truro.
Premier Tim Houston stated that Agropur’s commitments align with the provincial government’s plan to grow the economy. Greg Morrow, Minister of Agriculture, described the new plant as a strategic investment in local milk and value-added projects.
Roger Massicotte, President and Chair of Agropur, thanked the provincial government for its financial support and collaboration. The project is expected to create good-paying skilled-trade jobs during the construction phase and supports dairy farmers in Nova Scotia and other Maritime provinces.
Greg Archibald, Chair of Dairy Farmers of Nova Scotia, noted that investments in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick allow all locally produced milk to be processed within the region.
