Missing 78-Year-Old Man Found Dead in Halifax Park After Search Operation
A 78-year-old man reported missing since September 19 was found dead in Mainland Commons Park on Thursday, following a search and rescue operation triggered by the discovery of his vehicle.
Halifax Regional Police confirmed that a 78-year-old man, who had been reported missing since Sept. 19, was found dead on Thursday, Sep. 24, 2026. The discovery followed an extensive search and rescue operation in Mainland Commons Park.
The search efforts intensified after police located the man’s red Buick Encore parked on Westridge Drive at approximately 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday. This finding prompted authorities to launch a wide-scale search of the park area.
On Thursday morning, the ongoing operation resulted in the closure of several streets and an off-leash dog park within Mainland Commons Park. Searchers eventually located the man just after 1:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Police stated that the death is not believed to be suspicious.
