On the night of October 5, 2026, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) responded to a call at a residence in Yarmouth. A man and a woman were found at the home and arrested. According to SiRT, a struggle occurred between police officers and the man during the arrests.
The following day, the man went to hospital, where he was diagnosed with serious injuries requiring hospitalization.
The RCMP referred the matter to SiRT on October 7, 2026. The oversight body began its investigation immediately upon receiving the referral.
