New Student Housing Project Breaks Ground at NSCC Kingstec Campus in Kentville
Construction has begun on a new residence at the Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) Kingstec campus, adding approximately 90 beds to support students and apprentices. The project, expected to be completed by fall 2028, aims to alleviate local rental market pressure and provide affordable housing options.
Construction is underway for a new student housing facility at the NSCC Kingstec campus in Kentville, Nova Scotia. The project will add approximately 90 beds to the campus and is scheduled for completion by fall 2028.
The Kingstec campus, which offers horticulture and landscape programs, enrolls roughly 600 degree students annually. In addition, about 200 apprenticeship learners attend training at the site each year. Provincial officials state that the new residence aims to alleviate pressure on the local rental market while providing affordable housing options and fostering community among students.
Labour, Skills and Immigration Minister Nolan Young emphasized that accessing housing is key to student success and should not act as a barrier to education. Alex Faye, president of the Kingstec Student Association, noted that living closer to school allows students more time for studying and part-time jobs. Many current students commute from nearby communities such as Windsor.
Jason Clark, principal of the NSCC Kingstec Campus, highlighted that previous housing projects at the Pictou, Akerley, and Ivany campuses have added life and community to those sites. This new development builds on provincial efforts that have already added 350 spaces across other NSCC campuses.
