Tentative $400,000 Settlement Reached in Pictou Landing First Nation MRI Class Action
A tentative $400,000 settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit against two Halifax doctors who allegedly performed non-consensual liver MRI scans on 60 members of the Pictou Landing First Nation. The Nova Scotia Supreme Court will hold an approval hearing on Nov. 13.
A tentative $400,000 settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit alleging that members of a Nova Scotia First Nation underwent MRI scans without their consent.

The defendants in the case are two Halifax doctors. The original lawsuit was filed in 2020 and alleges the doctors took MRI scans of 60 members of the Pictou Landing First Nation without their knowledge or consent.
According to the allegations, band members agreed to undergo MRI scans as part of a research project in 2017 but were subjected to additional "secret" scans of their livers for a separate study.

The proposed settlement amount is $400,000. It is subject to approval from the Nova Scotia Supreme Court, with a hearing scheduled for Nov. 13.
