Bedford Highway Section to Close Overnight for Sign Removal at Windsor Street Exchange

A stretch of the Bedford Highway in Halifax will be closed from 10 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday to allow for the safe removal of an overhead sign structure as part of the $180-million Windsor Street Exchange Project.

The Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) has announced that a section of the Bedford Highway at the Windsor Street Exchange will be closed from 10 p.m. on Saturday until 7 a.m. on Sunday. The closure affects the stretch of the Bedford Highway between Windsor Street and the Joseph Howe Drive ramps.

The overnight shutdown is necessary for the safe removal of an overhead sign structure that crosses the full width of the Bedford Highway. Removing the sign will enable the construction of a detour road designed to support future phases of the Windsor Street Exchange project, a $180-million infrastructure upgrade aimed at improving traffic flow and reducing congestion in the area.

Marked detours will be in place during the closure. HRM is advising drivers to expect delays and to use alternative routes where possible. However, access to the Bedford Highway from the MacKay Bridge and Highway 111 will not be impacted by this work.

Bus riders affected by the weekend closure can find service updates on the Halifax Transit website.
