US Conducts New Strikes on Iranian Air Defense System Amid Diplomatic Efforts
President Donald Trump announced that the US military carried out limited strikes targeting an Iranian air defense system on November 7, 2026. The action follows Republican midterm election losses linked to the ongoing conflict and rising fuel prices, while Qatar continues mediating between Washington and Tehran.
On Friday, November 7, 2026, President Donald Trump announced that the US military conducted a new round of "minor" strikes on Iran, targeting an air defense system.
Trump described the operation as knocking out an anti-aircraft device in about 15 minutes, or possibly five. Iranian state media reported hearing two explosions in the Suza area of Qeshm Island, located in the Strait of Hormuz.
The latest action follows earlier US military strikes reported on Monday, which the military described as "defensive." Explosions were heard during those strikes on Qeshm and Hengam islands, as well as in Bandar Abbas. The US war on Iran began in February.
Friday's strikes marked the first military action since the Republican party suffered significant losses in Tuesday's midterm elections. Voter dissatisfaction with Trump's execution of the Iran war and elevated fuel prices contributed to the electoral setback. The disruption of the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial waterway for oil shipments, has driven fuel prices higher, affecting nearly every part of the global economy.

Concurrently, US Central Command announced a reward of up to $20 million and possible relocation for information regarding Iran's nuclear program facilities, equipment, and personnel. The offer is part of the State Department’s Rewards for Justice program.
Diplomatic efforts to end the conflict are continuing alongside the military operations. Qatar is mediating between the US and Iran, with recent diplomatic phone calls involving Trump, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and Qatari officials, including Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani.
