Three men have been charged with domestic violence-related murders following the deaths of three women in separate incidents across New South Wales, Australia, on Saturday. The cases have drawn condemnation from state political leaders and renewed public discussion regarding the safety of women.
In Sydney’s Bondi Beach, Sergei Mitnik was charged with the murder of a woman in her 90s. Police found the victim around 5:15pm on Saturday with significant stab wounds to her torso at a unit; she died at the scene. Authorities stated that Mitnik knew the victim. When he appeared in court on Sunday, Mitnik did not apply for bail, and his case was adjourned to Thursday. A defence lawyer raised concerns about Mitnik's mental health during the appearance, citing a cancelled psychologist appointment and the effects of taking Ozempic.
In Wagga Wagga, Adam Mark Perrim, 31, was charged with the murder of a 23-year-old woman who was found with stab wounds inside a home. Investigators confirmed that Perrim was in a relationship with the victim. He was arrested almost nine hours after the incident. During a brief court appearance on Sunday, Perrim did not apply for bail and is scheduled to appear again on November 18.
A third incident occurred at Mole River, where a 37-year-old man was charged with murder after the body of a 70-year-old woman was discovered. Police believe the suspect entered a property, attempted to steal a vehicle, and assaulted a 74-year-old male resident before moving to a neighbouring property where the woman's body was found. Part of the house at Mole River was damaged by fire. The suspect is due to appear in court on Monday.
NSW Premier Chris Minns expressed condolences to the families and communities affected by what he described as "shocking crimes." Opposition leader Kellie Sloane stated that Australia is failing women, citing data from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare which indicated that a woman was killed every 11 days in 2024-25 by an intimate partner.
