The Israeli military stated that the strike targeted two Hamas militants. This incident occurred despite a U.S.-backed ceasefire reached last October, which has halted large-scale fighting but not ended strikes.
Since the ceasefire took effect, Gaza health officials report more than 1,300 Palestinian deaths, mostly civilians. The Israeli military reports four soldier deaths during the same period. Prior to the ceasefire, Israel's military campaign killed more than 73,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza health authorities.
Hamas accuses Israel of violating the ceasefire and undermining efforts to implement U.S. President Donald Trump's plan to end the conflict. Israel says Hamas has been violating the deal. There is little progress on steps toward permanent peace.
The broader conflict began with Hamas-led attacks on southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, which killed 1,200 people and led to 251 being taken hostage.
